Archbishop set to Visit

Justin Welby coming to county

The Archbishop of Canterbury, Justin Welby will be coming on his first official visit to Derbyshire this June and will urge businesses to tackle modern day slavery as well as hosting an open forum for the public.

The three day visit scheduled for 21-23 June will be the first time the Archbishop has visited the Diocese, following a visit by his predecessor Dr Rowan Williams in 2011.

A free public event at The Roundhouse, Derby College on 21 June from 6.45pm will see the Archbishop taking questions from the floor and looks set to be a fascinating evening of discussion and debate. To book tickets visit www.derby.anglican.org and follow the Archbishop story link.

The Bishop of Derby, Alastair Redfern will accompany the Archbishop on his tour of the county where he will meet local businesses and head teachers; and a range of social projects, including work in Chesterfield and Glossop.

The visit culminates in a conference for business leaders aimed at addressing modern day slavery, as the Archbishop looks to support the work being carried out by the Bishop of Derby.

Bishop Alastair said: “We're delighted to welcome the Archbishop to our Diocese and to share with him some of the vital work carried out in the community and also the challenges and opportunities we face. I'm delighted he will be joining me to urge business leaders to combat the issue of modern day slavery and exploitation in the supply chain. His presence will serve to shine a spotlight on the issue.”

Further details of the visit will be made available by the Diocese of Derby in the coming weeks from the diocesan website: www.derby.anglican.org
